Praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well. (Psalms 139:14)
What thoughts arise when you gaze at your reflection? Do you recognize that you are fearfully and wonderfully made, or do you hear contrary voices?
During my high school years, I had a close friend with whom I shared much of my time. I cherished her friendship and believed she felt the same about me. Regrettably, she often pointed out that I lacked her beauty and intelligence, and that I was very short. Such remarks led to feelings of inferiority and adversely impacted my self-esteem.
Have you ever faced a comparable situation? It may not necessarily involve a friendship; it could be from a colleague, a family member, among others. Do you accept the negative opinions others express about you, or do you understand your identity through the lens of your faith in God?
Once you have a strong sense of who you are in God, it becomes difficult for others to convince you otherwise. You rely less on people’s opinions. Unfortunately, most of us choose to believe what we are told because we assume it is an honest opinion. However, this is not always the case. It is best to know what God says in His word.
YOU ARE BEAUTIFUL, A TREASURED POSESSION OF GOD ALMIGHTY!
In the journey to self-discovery, identify your values, gifts, inspirations, strengths, and weaknesses, etc. This will help you understand your inner self. Then read the word of God and see what it says. For your positive traits, magnify them, while for your negative traits, intentionally work towards improvement. This will not only enhance your self-worth but also your relationships.
